Educator

I've worked in education for as long as I can remember, from summer jobs in high school and college until today. My first full-time teaching job took me 7395 miles from home, to an island in South Korea. I taught English at an all boys high school and I adored my time in the classroom. When I retured to the United States, I chose to continue in the education field, but shift my focus to educational technology.

Instructional Technologist

Computers have always been a huge part of my life: I've been fixing hardware problems and teaching people how to use computers for as long as I can remember. Recently, my predilection for helping people survive their devices (and vice versa) has taken the form of working as an instructional technology specialist in a K-12 school. Last year, the school where I am now leapt headfirst into a 1:1 iPad program for every grade level, from Pre-K students to high school seniors. It has been incredible to be a part of leading this program and to see the transformative power of technology in the classroom.

Writer

Languages fascinate me. I studied literature and film in college, writing about everything from Soviet movies to Shakespeare. While in Korea, I worked as the film critic for an English language newspaper on the island where I lived - you can read a few of my favorite reviews here and here. Now that I am starting to learn to code, I've realized programming represents a unique opportunity to combine my passions for language and technology and education.

For me, App Academy is the ideal way to jump into the world of programming and development. Educationally and professionally, I thrive in highly focused, fast-paced environments, surrounded by driven and curious people. I believe that App Academy will be this type of learning envirnment and will allow me to turn my burgeoning experiences with coding into building full-fledged applications!

After App Academy, I would love to become part of a development team working on products in the educational field. I have been inspired by the work of companies like Codeacademy, Coursera, Khan Academy, and Knewton and I hope to find (or found!) a niche in this sector of technology.
